Work Experience- The Final day.

So this was the last day of my work experience. By Friday i had kind of gotten used to being there. For my last day i sat in on the Grade 1 classes. This morning was different from all the others though, once the morning bell had gone to start school everyone lined up outside in their classes. They then had to jog, run or walk as many laps around the outside fence of the school before the next bell went. As they finished each lap they added a counter to their teams container and eventually all the teams would add up points and see who was the winner. This lasted about 15 minutes and most kids finished about two or three laps, which was a pretty good effort considering how cold it was. I'm pretty sure it was the coldest day all week and i thought Monday was cold! For the morning they had maths, and i helped them learn the difference between Ones, Tens, and Hundreds during maths. They practiced by using the numbers they rolled on dice and listening to educational songs that helped them remember which order the number go in. The kids were really enthusiastic about listening to maths songs, all i can say is it is a lot different that what you would see of a high school kid! For the afternoon i sat in on the class while they did their 'daily five'. Which was a rotation of five learning activities they would do each day. Every class did these each day, they just all had different activities as they were obviously at different levels. With the grade 1's it was activities like; spelling games on the ipad or laptops, maths games, bingo and working with numbers, working with lettering and other little games like that. It was interesting to see them all working together as a team and if someone had an issue they would all try and solve it together. Overall i had a good last day and i was actually sad to leave. I chose 800 as my work experience because i like kids, and i think i could be a teacher but i haven't really decided what i want to do yet. I'm glad i chose 800 primary school as my placement, it was a good experience to see what it would be like to become a teacher or work at a school.

  1. Well done Emma, your blogs are thoughtful and detailed. Tt sounds like you were exposed to many different activities that primary school children are involved in. Their day sounds so busy and fun! It is interesting that you observed that enthusiasm for learning varies between primary and secondary students, this aspect of teaching is so interesting and challenging. Any ideas why there is such a big difference?
Did you notice that the students concentrated better after running? Do you participate in any sports? How does exercise make you feel?
There are many different jobs in education, it is a very exciting industry to work in. Well done, Ms Lidgerwood
